I have a wired peer to peer home network. One pc has a connect2air e-5400 usb d1700 wireless network card that I disabled when I first switched on the Win XP SP2 pc.

I now wish to hotsync my Palm TX via this wireless card.

I am confused about what I should do to a) get the card to broadcast/receive and b) get the TX to broadcast/receive. I need
some basic wifi setup instructions.

I have enabled the card. Under Network Connections the card is shown as Status Not connected . I suppose this is correct because it is not talking to anything. But is it broadcasting?

I go to my TX > Wifi and select on. But scanning from either machine reveals nothing.

I have installed Odyssey software and have got a dialog box but cannot see what I need to enter in any of the five tabs -
Connection, Profiles, Networks, Trusted Servers, Adapters

I switched on wifi on my TX and got a Belkin54g connection;I guess someone local, the signal is very weak. I then switched on my wireless pc. That picked up the same Belkin54G signal i.e there but very weak.

However my TX cannot see the Connect2Air card on the pc a few feet away when it can see the very weak signal.

I guess the Connect2Air is listening but not broadcasting?

I have also a problem with SSIDs. The Wireless Network Setup Wizard still holds a SSID I dont want; it will not pickup another SSID I created later. I have removed this first name from Wireless Network Connections Properties > Wireless Networks > Preferred networks but cannot remove it entirely i.e how do I delete a wireless network?

My reason for deleting is that as this was just a test I used a very simple SSID

Can anyone please give me instructions on these matters

Sounds llike your two cards are either listening on different channels, or they need to be changed to receive adhoc connections (adhoc meens without an access point)

Thank you for your reply.

I am trying to find out what channel my Palm TX uses.

I have setup, in my wifi software (Odyssey Client Manager) a new network connection with a much more complicatedn SSID and ad-hoc connection.

I gave it a 13 word ASCII, WEP, key and carefully entered SSID and key into my Palm. I have checked and rechecked the spelling and capitalization of the SSID and key.

I have changed the card's channel from default to 1 then 11; I'm guessing these.

So far the Palm cannot see the pc.

I do notice that the pc occassionaly says the weak local signal is connected to the original simple SSID?? The one I cant get at to change its setting to ad-hoc!

Are you using an access point, if not you do not need an SSID.

Try disabling all security and get things communicating first before encrypting your traffic.

Still cannot get a connection from my Palm.

On pc:-

Wireless Network Connection Properties > Connect using > CONNECT2AIR WLAN E-5400 USB > configure > Configuration tab > Profile and Network Name is blank, Network Type = Peer-to-Peer. WEP tab Encryption (WEP security) = Disabled.

NOTE Have selected WEP tab Encryption (WEP security) = Disabled. then pressedd Apply button, the pressed OK to close dialog box, when I reopen dialog box WEP returns to 64bit. I assume that it is Disabled until I reopen the box?

There are 9 other tabs for this particular wifi card's software; Conexant PRISM

I then look at Wireless Network Connection Properties > Wireless Networks where I have my origional named network, FIRST, but still with a red cross against it. If I open its properties Association > Network Authentication = Open and Data Encryption = Disabled

If I go to Wireless Network Setup Wizard It still says Add new computers or devices to the 'FIRST' network.

Any ideas please
