Belkin 802.11g wireless router on cableless system to
1)USB adapter for desktop, 2)network adapter card
for laptop (IBM Thinkpad 770). All units installed
and worked good (although with weak signal) for
accessing the Internet. However, after sharing folders
on the desktop (using Win XP), when I tried to
do the same on the laptop (using Win Me),
clicking the Entire Network icon gave error
alert box>> Unable to browse the
network...(etc)
Microsoft.com's knowledge base article 193938 (
support.microsoft.com/kb/q193938/) gave sequential steps to
remedy the problem. Step #2 was to move the card
to another slot. I did not consult IBM and
did not have the manual, etc., and went ahead
and switched slots. Because the Belkin card
installation program instructed me to insert the card
(at a certain point in the installation) with the
computer already booted up, I moved the card
with it running. The card lights did not come
on, and all subsequent attempts to reinstall the
card (including uninstall/reinstall of the driver
software) have failed and the lights still do not
come on (on the card).
I do not know if there is a ruined card,
ruined circuit on the laptop that's been caused, or
something else. If it's software at fault, I
would like to fix it. If it's the card went
toast, I'd like to replace it. If the laptop
circuit for PCI went toast, I will likely leave
it toast as the value of the laptop is small
now. When I tried to run the Belkin utility, it
would try to run, then disappear (both before and
after reinstallation), not allowing me to attempt
to use it or see if there was a troubleshooting
area that covered such a situation.
Note: Router and desktop's USB wireless are still
functioning normally (with frequent weak signal...probably
Adelphia issue). Card in question did work for
Internet prior to this issue.
Any suggestions would be appreciated regarding...
1)what is keeping the card from functioning
2)how to get the card (when working) to see
shared files, share files, etc.
Thanks
