I have a BEFW11S4 and a WRT54G. I have connected
the wrt54 to the original bef11 in gateway mode
with dhcp diabled, so my wired equipment is
working ok. How should I setup the wireless? Two
different SSIDs? can I use a single SSID but
still set up the WRT54G in G only, so I have
acces to both speeds?

hi there
my first question is why you want to connect two
routers with each other? & if you are connecting
also you have to make both of them hard-wired
because two routers cannot communicate with each other
wirelessly....
may i know what is the distance between the
first router befw11s4 and your computer.....if its is
quite far away ---i mean it is around 100 to
120 ft... then you can have an access point
rather having an router wrt54g for it....& make the
connection wireless....with it. the wireless router
will communicate with wireless access point wirelessly
in repeater mode...

I know it sounds weird, and this is a temporary
setup while I can get an access point, but the
question will still remain on the wi-fi setup
combining 802.11b and g. The main router is b,
and the additional router/access point is g. My
goal is to setup an extended hotspot but I-m not
sure if it will be possible to roam from the
g to the b areas without losing connection.
Also the reason of this sub optimal setup is
currently due to economic reasons  ,
hopefully in the near future I can get my hands
on a main g router and an additional g acces
point, which seems to be the ideal setup. |

well,
my friend
first of all i will like to tell you that
wireless-b works with wireless-g network...
not a problem for that...
and yeh if you if really want to setup two
routers not a problem you make a wired connection
between them...
settings will be:
connect modem with befw11s4 & then connect befw11s4
with a wire to the internet or the WAN port
of the wrt54g...& set the local ip address of
the router to 192.168.2.1....in wrt54g
& yeh if u want to make wireless connection from
wrt54g and beyond just keep the ssid to linksys
& channel to 11 or1...
your wrt54g will talk to your wireless card
wirelessly...but of course the ssid & channel will
be the same for the wireless card also...

| Exactly! Just did and worked great. Still
not sure about the roaming because the areas are
overlapped, but any way, both b and g cards
are connecting w/o problems, Thanks!! |

Very sorry to hijack your thread, I have a
similar problem and am excited to see someone who
might be able to help.
I currently have four puters at my house all
connected to each other and the internet throu a
Netwave Blitz 802.11b 4 port wireless router.
I want to add one more puter at my house to
be able to connect to the internet and two more
puters at my neighbors houses for file and print
sharing.
I have purchased a dlink 802.11b 4 port wireless
router (closeout sale - 30 bucks) because I thought
I had read on the package when I bought the
first router expand your network by adding
additional routers my memory of it was that it
was supposed to be easy.
I have spent the last three weeks googling and
pulling my hair out.
Can any tell me if I should be able to modify
the info given to wanstiller and apply it to
my situation? If so any further advice on settings
would be greatly appreciated.
