Hi -
Having the same problem. It was workign then I
shipped my laptop to the US so it wasn't turned
on for over a month.
When I run the test - radio not turned of...
it shoudl be easy.
I've tried configuring it through windows; turning the
radio off, rebooting, turning it on. No joy.
And through the Atheros client utility the 'Enable
Radio' option is disabled.
Argh!

Smile Gents, your days of worries are over. The
problem is a simple one to fix. I have recently
also purchased (rather, was given the laptop with
my cellphone/mobile contract) a laptop with model #
LE1D. Suddenly, one day, the Wi-fi light (little
blue think, bottom right corner of the LT) Stopped
flashing. I tried for days, and I was convinced
that it had to do with that Wi-Fi button. So
I was starting all sorts of services on the
thing and pressing the button to invoke some sort
of response! no
luck! I must mention that I plug my laptop into
my TV often to watch DVD's, and to switch
between the views, instead of going via display
properties, which is long, tedious, and a pain in
the @%#, I would use the FUNCTION shortcut key
(Located bottom left corner of the keyboard) By
pushing FN and F3, I could switch displays. I
also noted that FN & F4 will do a hardware
disable of the Wi-Fi card! Nothing on Gods green
Earth will make that work again, other than
pushing FN & F4 again. I must have pushed it
accidentally at some point, cos that is how I
got it working again, after about 2 days of
being off my own network! So
yeah, if you guys are still having this problem,
as I see the post is pretty old, let me know
if this helps!
G'luck

I have the exact same problem now: Atheron
AR5005G radio turned off, for no aparent reason.
Had the laptop in service, after 3 weeks got it
back, wireless worked for another 2 weeks and
that was it. Pressed FN & f4 - no results.
Tried other "combinations" - nothing... does anyone
has an ideea what can this be coming from?

Hi All,
I just had the same problem, but found the
solution, On my laptop it was the FN and F1
key that sorted the problem, looks as though
different suppliers use different keys, look for the
wireless symbol.
hope this helps

I have an Acer Travelmate 2310. There is a
wireless button on the front of the laptop. It's
usually amber, and I didn't realize that it wasn't
when I was troubleshooting and trying to connect
and getting frustrated and about to kick the darned
thing ... It's the button/light in the center
right front of the computer. Hope this helps
someone else, so they don't have to wonder why
the HELP menu tells you to "enable/disable the
radio", but doesn't tell you how to do that.

Hi Guys,
I have never posted on a forum before but after
4 frustrating hours I felt compelled to do so!
1st tried reverting back to previous Atheros
driver...no joy
2nd I checked and reinstalled Atheros drivers...no
joy.
3rd Installed Launch Manager 1.0.8.3 at this point
the barchart icon (wireless NIC) appeared in the
quick start bar & when I pushed the wifi
button the green txt appeared at the bottom of
the screen saying NO DEVICE.
So I finally I simply reinstalled Acer Launch
Manager 1.0.9.4. this is basically the little software
package that controls all the special keyboard keys
including the funny special silver buttons at the
top of the keyboard (to be honest never used or
even noticed these before) & also the WIFI
& Bluetooth buttons on the front edge (the ones
that you always hit by mistake when typing).
When you restart and Launch Manager installs
automatically you will see the wifi button flash
orange and you can now press it to activate
wifi!! Hooray.
Hope this saves a lot of you some time &
energy....

Hey all - new here as well. I saw this
thread AFTER I had figured out the same wireless
issue that you were all having:
Atheros wireless client "Enable Radio" button is
greyed out.
I too, am working with an Acer ( Aspire 5043wlmi
) and the Atheros ar505g adapter. I looked
all over the a hotkey ( Fn+?? ) to enable the
bloody thing. I did, however notice that the
front of the laptop had a small button/led. No
matter what I did to the blasted thing, it
wouldn't enable.
Then it hit me. Try the other buttons!
Above the keyboard, there are some quicklaunch
buttons, so I hit those. They didn't work
either. So "hurr durr" I went. Right to the
acer web page (my god they updated it for the
first time in 6 years!) and got the acer
launch manager. Restarted PC, and poof. Enabled
and happy.
Any further questions regarding all types of tech,
don't be afraid to ping my email or hit my
web site www.browningtechservices.com
Cheers!

Hello
I have an Acer Aspire 3050 using the same
card.
after 3 days of browsing the web for answers to
the same problem.. how to enable the radio on
the card i've discovered it's very simple.
My wlan button is broke but :
1. get the drivers (duh)
-it should look like it's working properly .. radio
switch in windows doesn't do squat.
2. get the atheros utility
3. Acer launch manager tells us in the help:
Launch Key Wired/Wireless LAN switch Press button
to enable or disable Wireless function.
4. The launch key's are in the right top corner,
next to the extra buttons for internet explorer,
mail and a P button which i have no ideea
what it does.

amp;current=acer_as3050_lft.jpg
(can't insert photo here for some reason)
For me the button is just black with nothing on
it(located in the pic above). once you've done
that the button in front of the computer(mine is
broken but stuck on ON) will start to flicker.
That means the radio has been turned on
5.go to your atheros utility, right click , Select
Client Software and select Windows .
I hope this helps.
