I am planning to but a wireless router and wireless Laptop card kit for my
Toshiba laptop. My broadband connection at home is connected by the NTL
phone company and the cable line currently runs through a modem provided by
NTL.
If I buy a router I have noticed thay often have a built in modem. I am
guessing I don't need this as I will have to connect the router to the NTL
Broadband modem as the cable connection goes directly into it.Currently the
patch cable just comes out of the modem and I connect it to my laptop, so
can I add a router instead and connect wirelessly?
Thanks.

Hi Nick
I have just gone wireless with NTL. I bought the LINKSYS WRT54GSUK
currently at PC world £49.99. It was a piece of cake to install. The
wireless router has 4 ports that can be hardwired from it and a wireless
facility. I have my PC downstairs hardwired, my daughters PC upstairs
wireless and my laptop wireless. its great. You have to connect the laptop
to the router with the RJ45 cable initailly to set it up and once up and
running just go wireless. When setting up dont put the encryption on until
it working properley, then put encryption codes in to keep your network
secure. any probs just post on here again. Hope this helps
