How do I stop http : / / from appearing in
the browser after hitting the Enter key?
Trying to access the Belkin Web Interface
192.168.2.254.
Instructions state to type in 192.168.2.254 WITHOUT
anything else but http: keeps popping up after I
hit enter. Then a Google search page comes
up.
P.S. I'm using Internet Explorer 8

An IP address even if it's local is treated as
a web site address, for example http://127.0.0.1 which
is the IP address for a local webserver / host.
Same goes for router IP address, when you want
to access the administration page to admin your
router, you access it through the browser (can be
accessed from command line too).
When you write any IP address on the address
bar, all browsers not just IE will append http://
before it and it's normal, your help guide is
meant probably not to type anything else after or
before as they know that will be appended to
http://. In some cases and if your favorite search
engine is set to take you directly to the
website / IP address and it does not find it,
it'll do a search instead.
If the IP address of your belkin router admin
URL is correct, i.e 192.168.2.254, just type it and
it should take you to the router admin page
to enter your admin username and password so you
can change things. Try also http://192.168.2.1 or http://192.168.2.2
instead of http://192.168.2.254, see also this thread

PS: Members with less than 10 posts all have
their posts with certain words replaced, they can
not post website addresses, signatures etc, so,
http:// will be removed for example, so I corrected
your post where it said http:// to http : /
/ so it can appear, this is due to our
internal apam busting system to discourage one time
spammers and robots...!
