Belkin 802.11 Router.

Thread: Belkin 802.11 Router.

Hello, hope someone can give me the info that I am looking for here.

I want to set up my house with a wireless network so that I can brouse the internet downstairs rather than having to go to my home office where the phone line is sited.

I bought a Belkin 802.11g router to do this with but, the instructions lead me to think that I have to have a computer permanently connected to the router by the yellow wi fi cable supplied.

What I really want to do is use the router as a modem transmitter (probably the wrong terminology but, I hope you understand what I mean!) so that the internet is accessable in any room of my house. I only have one computer and that is my laptop which is wireless ready.

I have a HP laptop with centrino processor - not too sure which model it is but, I gues that is not too important. I have connected to wireless networks in hotels etc so I know it works ok.

I just want to know whether what I want to do is possible with the kit I have bought or whether I need to get something else.

Hi Folks,
Nobody posted a reply (which is fine!) so I plodded on and configured the router while wired via the ethernet cable. Once the configuration was complete I unplugged the cable and found that I was able to connect to and brouse the internet.

So as they say "so long suckers", "I'm outta here".
