Thread: Losing Internet if PC is idle for a while

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a DG834PN router because I need the range, and mostly because of the layout of the house. It was boxed with the WPN111 adaptor which I use on a PC that has to be where it is, unfortunately for my wallet in a dodgy place, and my old DG834G was not good enough.

I also use a Belkin 54g adaptor, this is only because my older 54g PCI card would not connect for more than a second! Fine with the older router.

The problem I am having on both PC's is when either of then are idle for 10 - 15 minutes (not too sure on exact times), they lose Internet connectivity but not there connection to the router. Both PC's have to be rebooted to get Internet pages back. The same happens if one is in use, and the other is idle for a while, either way round. Both are running IE7, all up to date.

As you’ll all know the WPN111 is USB 2.0, but the PC is only 1.1. It does work, but after the PC has been idling for a while (again not sure on exact time's) it seems to uninstall, giving me the dreaded “!” next to it in Device Manager. Unplugging it and plugging in again sorts it out. I now I really should get a USB 2 card for it, but should it do this? It has the latest driver installed.

I have checked all my drivers and firmware are up too date, and they are. I never had this problem with the older router. I have checked settings all over to see if the adaptors are turning off automatically, but nothing like that.

Anyone had this problem?

Cheers

Dave
