Hi guys, I'm basically trying to improve the signal
to my study where my 360 is now based. Ive
got a NetgearDG834G wireless router and an xbox 360
about 15 meters away. Ive made a quick diagram
below so you can get the picture. When i put
the router in the concervatory I can just get a
signal. Im guessing this is because there are no
walls to inturupt it. However when its moved to
the main house I pretty much lose it. I'm
wondering if theres anyone with a similar situation
who knows what to do. maybe a new aerial?
booster? bridge or repeater? any help will be
extremely aprieciated. 9/10 people have told me its
too far and dont waste your money just get it
wired but Id really rather stay wireless as there
are issues in getting a wire to the study.

Take it you’ve tried the obvious, lifting/moving both
aerial(s)/units as far as you can given limitations
of reach?
Directional aerials can improve signal, but would need
to be experimented with. Depends on the
thickness/type/number of walls, and also signal path.
No guarantee of success.
You could use a repeater, but this would halve
your available bandwidth (again), and increase
latency, - if you use the x-box for on-line
gaming.
I agree with the 90% of people, wired is the
best option. Remember you have the option of
external cat 5, to run around the outside of the
house.

Forgot to mention another option which could help
you avoid cabling - Homeplug which uses the ring
main wireing of your home. The link below seems
to explain how to set it up in some detail.

Wireless Networks always depend on the Operating
environment, what will work for one might not work
for another. the Router that you are using is
perfect when it comes to connect ADSL but it
falls short in more demanding environmnts. One that
I would recommend is the DG834N- wireless connection
with router is crazy be it in the artic or
basement it has worked wonders.
Fellsider has brought up another option which I
always recommend for gamers or laptop users that of
Powerline Wireless Range Extender kits something like
the Netgear WGXB102, good piece of kit, one is
permantly hardwired to the router the other you can
move about as you please depending on what room
you ar in.
