Does anybody know why I had to disable my
firewall in order to install my new AT&T
wireless gateway?

You must disable settings unless you pre program
your new gateway via ethernet and also change the
settings in your firewall, where you able to
reinstate your firewall once it was installed?
If not i suggest reinstating it!
