Myself and a mate, as a hobby have run a
community wifi network using Locustworld Pro mesh
box’s for the last couple of years. We have 3
internet gateways spread throughout the mesh footprint
in clients houses.
The only recurring problem we suffer are intermittent
router lock-ups. Not very often once/twice a month,
- if that. However, they are very annoying and
nearly always need a phone call/visit to power-cycle
the router which takes 2 min’s max. Then all’s
well, till the next time.
We’ve established after exhaustive testing by:- Call’s
to ISP/BT, setting changes, security logs, different
makes of router (3), weather conditions, traffic load,
you name it. These lock-up’s appear to be
totally random. We've been beat
Does anyone use, or even know of a system we
could use which would say, ping at regular
intervals a known ip address and power cycle the
router if unobtainable?
I know of systems available which will respond to
a phone call, but rely on an administrator
monitoring the network, ideally as we both work
full time this could be something which would work
without interaction?
