Anyone gone above 11mbps?

Hey

I was just wondering if anyone had tried out 11a 11b+ or 11g products and how they rated them.

I'm considering the buffalo WBR-G54 router [1]. This is based on the proposed 11g standard so its backwards compatible with my existing 11b kit. The literature they sent me looks promising, but of course it would

The alternative is one of the 11b+ products from the likes of D-Link or SMC running at 22mbit, but how long these will remain popular and supported is anyone's guess.

So has anyone broken the 11mbit speed limit? with what kit? and how was the experience?

I have tested many G routers and they all get about 50% of the addvertised range. So you are looking at about 20Mbps within 1 foot of the router. At about 60 ft you can allmost cut that in half. The best bang for the buck in my opnion would be the SMC Barricade G. It is a very sturdy unit with alot of features.

I'm currently about 15 feet away and hitting 54mb. My daughter is upstairs and is hitting about 48. I'm still going to look for some replacement antenna's though. So far I'm happy with this one.

Replacement antenas will improve your throughput but give you a bigger secuirty risk due to you are increasing your effective range. If you can supply me with the model of your router I can find you some high gain antenas.

Mike,
I'm using the USR8054 specs located here:
http://www.usr.com/products/networking/router-product.asp?t ype=features&sku=USR8054

It has 2 removable antennas with reverse polarity SMA connectors. I'm using MAC addressing and WEP as security so I'm not too worried about that. I would like greater range but hopefully without a higher cost to do it.
Thanks,
Martin

I will check with my resources and try to find you the antenas ASAP.

i am running the buffalo 54g kit over a 2 mile distance to 2 clients and have no trouble with connections as i am using onmi(16dbi) and high gain(24dbi) antennas i like the buffalo kit and i do get 54mbs over this distance but it will drop off to anything down to 1mbs i think this is a setting in the hardware that it only uses what it needs as when downloading at the remote sites the mbs will increase.

The buffalo gear is 54g but if u have any equipment connecting using 802.11b everyone will run at 11b standard even if they have 11g cards.
