what Router should I buy?

Thread: what Router should I buy?

I hope you guys can help me out here as I'm a little confused as to what wireless router I should buy.

I'm trying to set up a home wireless network in an apartment. The apartment is basically a rectangle measuring 30 m x 15 m so distance is never going to be a particular problem.

The network will consist of the main PC located in a small office room (the router will also go in here); a single workstation located in the lounge which is next door to the office and a pda (XDA2i). I want to be able to share audio (cd's, mp3's); multimedia files (dvd's, avi's); and the internet between the main pc and the workstation. The only thing I need the xda2i to be able to do is browse the internet.

The workstation is already fitted with a Belkin F5D6001 wireless network card, which I wish to re-use if at all possible. The xda2i comes pre-fitted with wireless lan. The main PC does not have a network card installed. I connect to the internet (2.2 G line) via an external zoom usb adsl modem.

The main pc is running windows xp pro and the workstation runs win 98 se but I dont have a problem changing operating systems if necessary. Rather not but if it's necessary then so be it.

Price is a factor as I would rather not spend a fortune but obviously want the system to work properly. Is it as simple as going for something fast i.e. 125 MBPS. and if so can anyone recommend a particular router as the sales gumpf is mostly mis-leading regarding speeds i.e. many are advertised as 125 MBPS but when you get inside the info they are in fact 54 MBPS
