I'd like to create a home LAN and would like to know what kind of hardware
I need. The LAN will not be connected to the internet. It's purpose will
only be to share files, etc. between three computers. I was given a
wireless router ( DLink DI-524) by a friend and would like to know if I
could use this for my LAN ? It has 4 ports on the back to connect the
computers, but it also has a port for high speed internet. Could I just
plug the computers into this router and get it to share files , or do I
need a connection to high speed internet for it to be able to work ? Please
help !

hi,
D-link DI 524 has a built in 4-port switch.
you can share the files between the three computers with the above router
without having to connect to the internet.
connect the three computers on any of the four ports and leave the wan port
(port for high speed internet) unconnected.
check the datasheet and the manual for settings of the router to use as a
4-port swith.
