Thread: Wireless Modem connectivity problem

rzofrd - 20/2/06 at 18:09

I'm in the process of changing internet service from SBC/Yahoo DSL to Broadband (RCN Cable here in Chicago).

I have a problem keeping my broadband connection.

When using my DSL, there are no problems, all works fine, howver with my new broadband connection and when travelling, I cannot hold/keep the connection.

For instance: my brother has Comcast cable modem and wireless Linksys router at his hosue. When I visit his house, I can connect, howver I get bumped off every 10 seconds or so. I then plugged my PC (newer model with windows 2000 XP) into his router and still get bumped off every 10 seconds or so. whether I try wireless or wired...I still get an interruption every 10 seconds.

Next problem: I just switched from DSL to cable broadband at my home and am also using a Linksys wireless router.

I retained my 2-wire wireless LAN card that is 802.11 G compatible with the new Linksys wireless router.

The problem is that when I sign onto sites that require a password, I get bumped off and then have to re-enter my log-in info...only to bumped off within 10 seconds.

I'm confident it's something to do with my computer...I just don't understand or know how and what to change to keep the connection stable.

I want to continue with my plans to ditch the DSL and go with the cable Broadband, however the DSL works perfectly and never interrupts the connectin - it just costs 3X more than the plan my cable company is offering.

Can anyone help me?
