I am gettin a laptop with a wireless network card and I will need to be
able to connect to a wifi network around 5-10 miles away as I am going to
be in the countryside where I am going so there wont be any access points
nearby . Would it be possible to get an antenna booster or something to
make my signal reach 5-10 miles, cause I know regular wifi cards only go
about 300 foot . I know about special wirelss data cards but I wont be
buying one of them yet and I am going soon. Thanks if ne1 can help ill be
grateful.
Have you considered using Wi-Fi Hotspots, well, if it's only for a short
period of time, check out the wi-fi hotspots directory (on the left
navigation), sign up with a wi-fi provider like boingo (top banner).
Some people had successful signal with 5+ miles, however, there are
conflicting and mixed views as to what is the best hardware and software
mix. I know from many of our members who gained good signals from just over
1 mile with range extenders and antenna boosters etc..(check out the wi-fi
hardware store www.wi-fitechnology.com/Wi-Fi-Store+main.html , for
examples and reviews).
