ive got exact same problem with MR314 also. it had worked fine for over 2 years or however long ive had it. then last week, my dsl went out. i had turned off the Mr314 router to see if that was the problem. the dsl was the problem and came back eventually.

but after the reboot of the router the wireless no longer worked. the SSID does not even show up in available networks. but wired LAN works fine.

ive tryed to router factory default reset about 5 times. changed SSID names, tryed it with and with out encryption. rebooted the router first, then the modem. rebooted the modem first, then the router. nothing. notta.

ive also tryed another computer with a different wireless card. it should at least show it in available networks. i have seen the blue circle around one of the preferred networks, but it doesnt appear to do anything and its random. i have 3 names in the list.

i read somewhere that a windows update could be the problem? and to delte them one by one til you find out which one possibly. really not sure. but at least now it looks like its the router if other people are having the same problem right now.

also the wireless light blinks, and the activity light blinks off and on randomly. so im not sure where the activity is if it doesnt even show up as available....

I do have the exact same problem as well. I'm having it for the third time now (after another power outage). Tried everything: reboot, factory-reset, different firmwares. Nothing helps. The other two times (about two months and about half a year ago) it began working again after some time, but I have not done anything specific before it started to work. This time I had no luck yet.

The failure is definately in the MR 314; I've checked all the cards with another wireless base-stationsand they work fine. I've just opened a case with Netgear support. Will report back if they can help.

Please those who have the same problem: Report it to Netgear support so that they have to do something.

Regards,
-Luzian

One possible reason I could imagine: The MR 314 cannot boot the wireless part when there is a certain type of wireless-card in its range. This might be just a boot time problem, once the MR 314 is running, it's ok. Probably someone of the neighbours has such a card.

This is the only thing that I can imagine that would explain the behaviour that I'm experiencing.

We've had exactly the same problems, following a power outage. I've tried lots of different computers and none can now pick up the signal from the mr314.

I took the cover off and noticed two things:

1 The mr314 makes a high-pitched kind of hissing noise when switched on.
2 There's a normal netgear ma401 network card inside. A few seconds after switching the router on, the link light on the card comes on and stays on.

Are either of these two things normal?

I've tried rebooting etc, but nothing works! The status lights on the device indicate that everything should be working fine - but it isn't!

Well I've been surfing the web trying to see if others are having the problem I am with the mr314 and this thread just backs it up completely.
I can see 5 other wireless networks on my laptop and connect to the unprotected ones but I cannot see the mr314.
Tried the resets, changing channels, SSID's etc.
Looks like I will have to get another WAP to replace it.

Must be a problem with the mr314 hardware being flaky for so many others to have the same problem. Thx

I've been using a MR314 with the latest firmware V3.29 (CF.0)b1 to run 2 laptops: one windows and one Mac for about a year. Before the updated firmware I've had the occasional unexplained outage, but it always came back at some point. A few days ago the test light was flashing and I tried a reset [pressing the button at the back for a couple seconds] this did not help so I unplugged the power cord. After a few minutes I replugged the power cord - the power light, the [Internet] LNK light and all the [Local] 100 and LNK/ACT came on and remain solidly lit. The Test light flashes intermittently and goes sometimes or remains solidly lit after a few flashes. I have unplugged the cord and left it unplugged for hours but each time it behaves the same. It also does not respond to the reset button being pressed. So I am totally without wireless service and have to be hooked up to my modem by a yellow Ethernet umbilical cord. Do I need a new MR314 or are their any suggestions on likely resolution?
