Hi,
After reading a review I bought a Mercury WL530 PCI card for my old PC (Athlon 550, 256MB, Windows XP). I have installed it and managed to connect to my US Robotics router but after just a few seconds it makes my PC freeze completely so the only way I can reset the PC is to switch off at the mains.
Apologies if this type of query has been covered before but any help v.gratefully received.
Thanks
SB

Hi,
It looks like compatibility issues,
can you please send me little more information about the motherboard, and the drivers for the card.
The wl530 card is a 32-bit PCI interface, check the motherboard information as well.

I had this problem on my Dell Inspiron 5160 Laptop (P4) running Windows XP.

The problem was resolved by using the standard windows configuration utility instead of the thing provided on the CD. You still have to install the driver though. Here are the steps I took:

1. Install the driver from the CD.
2. Insert the card and wait for it to launch the Mercury config utility, following which it should blue screen with a system halt. (this step MAY not be necessary, but it is what happened).
3. Remove the card.
4. Restart the PC and uninstall the Mercury software.
5. Restart the PC and reinsert the card.
6. Bring up the properties dialog for the card (network n/hood, RH click) and from the advanced options, ensure that the 'use windows to configure' option is selected.
7. All should not be tickety boo.

Regards,

KK.
