EXTEND IN-CAR LAPTOP WIFI ACCESS WITHOUT CONNECTING
ANTENNA DIRECTLY TO A CARD IN THE LAPTOP?
My laptop has a built-in wireless card. I am
about to embark on my annual storm chasing trip,
and want to extend the wireless range of the
laptop.
I would prefer NOT to have to put in a WiFI
card and hook it to an external antenna (not an
option for the internal card), but I want the
advantage of an antenna.
Hence, ils it possible to do the following?
1) Put a WiFi repeater in the car hooked to a
high gain antenna on the roof
2) Have the laptop talk to the repeater, and the
repeater detect and communicate with in-range wifi
hotspots?
The idea is to be able to detect and connect
to open wifi systems, with much better system
sensitivity (via the external antenna) than the laptop
has, but with no wires connected to the
laptop.
Is this possible, or will the repeater have to
be configured for each foreign network it
encounters?
