I have a Netgear WGT624 router on an XP computer and a WG311t on one with
Windows 98SE. I was able to set up the network with no security and WEP. I
downloaded and installed the WG311T software upgrade 3.0.1.6. When I tried
to use WPA-PSK security when I clicked on Apply I received the message
The supplicant support has not been installed correctly. You need to run
setup again to fix this problem. If instead you continue, 802.1x and WPA
will be disabled.(1) The status of the connection keeps alternating
between green with good signal strength and red.
Does run setup again mean clicking on the advanced security button again
and filling in the password? I tried this and it didn't work. I also did
Run>Command and winipcfg, chose Netgear 108... from the drop down list
and renewed the IP addresses. This didn't help.
I had the same problem. I even re-installed it four times, with no visible
improvement.
Eventually I gave up and put an Ethernet PCMCIA card in the laptop. Once I
had it on the net, I ran Windows Update until it didn't want to do any
more, then had another shot at installing the WG511T driver. This time it
worked, and WPA is now fine.
Looks like something in a bare Win98SE install isn't compatible with the
driver. I've reported this to Netgear support.
