Auction Concludes Another Chapter in Resolving Bankruptcy Matters, Vital Spectrum Made Available for Additional Capacity and New Services

Washington, D.C. -/17 Feb, 2005 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The Federal Communications Commission's auction of broadband Personal Communications Services (PCS) licenses ended on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, raising gross revenues of $2,253,802,000 and, after applying bidding credits, total net revenue of $2,043,230,450. Pending the remaining steps in the application process, this auction marks the completion of an important chapter in putting these spectrum licenses to work for the American public.

FCC To Enhance Homeland Security By Improving Latest Broadband Technology



Washington, DC -/11 Nov, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The Federal Communications Commission took an important step to enhance homeland security by improving the ability of public safety personnel to use spectrum at 4940-4990 MHz (4.9 GHz band). The Commission revised technical specifications in the 4.9 GHz band to allow manufacturers to adapt, for that band, technologies that are being used in adjacent spectrum bands, such as the 5.4 GHz Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) unlicensed band and the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) band.

OBSAI Revised RF Module Interface Specifications v.2.0 now available



-/1 Nov, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/-The Open Base Station Architecture Initiative is today announcing the availability of V2.0 of the RF Module to Baseband Module interface specification (referred to as RP3 V2.0). This specification is in addition to the OBSAI suite of interface and module specifications covering: control, transport and base band; currently available; and was made available to OBSAI members on 11th October this year.

Wi-Fi Alliance Forms New Group to Meet the Unique Needs of the Cellular Industry Deploying Converged Wi-Fi/Cellular Products

Austin, TX-/25 Oct, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The Wi-Fi Alliance announced the first round of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED products providing both Wi-Fi and cellular communications. These certifications, along with the large number of similar products under development, point to a rapidly evolving trend toward a range of products that enable both Wi-Fi and cellular communications. In response to this trend, the Wi-Fi Alliance has initiated a Wi-Fi/Cellular Convergence (WCC) task group focused on identifying and meeting the cellular industry’s unique certification requirements for Wi-Fi functions in WCC devices.

Wi-Fi Alliance Will Not Certify 802.11n Features Until The Standard Is Ratified



Pre-Standard IEEE 802.11n Products that Create Interoperability Issues Will Lose Wi-Fi® Certification

Austin, TX -/11 Oct, 2004 - The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced that it will not certify data rate enhancement features based on the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.11n amendment to the 802.11 wireless LAN standard until the standard is ratified. No IEEE 802.11n products currently exist, and none are expected to exist until the standard is completed in approximately two years (November 2006).
