Agere Systems Acquires TeraBlaze, A Leading Developer of High-Density Gigabit Ethernet Switching Solutions

ALLENTOWN, Pa., and CUPERTINO, Calif. /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A, AGR.B) today announced that it has acquired TeraBlaze Inc., a privately held developer of Gigabit Ethernet switching solutions based in Cupertino, Calif. With this acquisition, Agere expects to deliver high-density switching solutions to serve the fast-growing Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) market. TeraBlaze's industry-leading switch-on-a-chip technology will enable Agere to provide single-chip GbE solutions to equipment providers addressing SOHO (small office, home office) and enterprise applications.

Nortel Networks to Expand Capacity of PTML's Ufone GSM Network

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML) has awarded Nortel Networks* [NYSE/TSX: NT] a contract estimated at US$56 million to implement a major expansion of PTML's national Ufone GSM 900 digital wireless network. This is the second major expansion by Nortel Networks since building the original network for PTML in 2001, and it is expected to raise Ufone's capacity to 1.3 million subscribers.

Anti-Consumer Subpoena Process Struck Down by Appeals Court

WASHINGTON /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Verizon declared victory for consumer safety and privacy today (December 19, 2003)when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia announced it has struck down a controversial lower-court ruling that had forced Internet service providers to reveal the identity of any Internet subscriber accused of music piracy. Singapore's M1 awards Nokia deal for WCDMA and GSM/GPRS expansion and enhancement

Mobile operator M1 of Singapore has awarded Nokia a contract to supply equipment and services for the second phase of its WCDMA 3G network rollout. In addition, the deal includes GSM/GPRS equipment to enhance GSM coverage and GPRS capacity.
