August 4 2003 /Wi-Fi Technology News/- Around 4,000 of Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council?s staff regularly use IT systems to enable them to provide essential services to over 261,000 local residents. In order to focus on its core business, Bolton MBC has outsourced its desktop, server and mid-range infrastructure along with email, network support, internet access, applications and helpdesks used by the council employees to Fujitsu Services, in a contract worth ?13 million over the next seven years.

Eur 1 billion in cost reductions, 2,300 jobs to be cut

Given the sustained weakness of the market, Siemens mobile, the mobile communications arm of Siemens AG, intends to take steps to increase its productivity. These steps call for an additional ? 1 billion in cost reductions throughout the entire group by year-end 2004. The intended adjustments to its resources also include a reduction in force. Some 2,300 jobs, including 500 in Germany, are slated to be cut by the end of the coming fiscal year. Details are currently being discussed with the appropriate committees and other bodies. At the same time, the group intends to expand its market share in mobile communication networks through further investments in UMTS. ?The world market for mobile communication networks had already declined by 15 percent last year.

Schaumburg, Ill., July 31, 2003 ? Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that the Honorable Jed S. Rakoff of the United States District Court, Southern District of New York issued a $4.26 billion judgment against the Uzan family of Turkey for perpetrating a massive fraud against Motorola. Further, Judge Rakoff found the defendants in contempt of court and ordered that: ?unless and until defendants purge their contempts, the individual defendants, if found within the jurisdiction of the United States, will be immediately arrested and held in confinement until such time as they comply with the directives of the Court?s? prior orders.

Starbucks Corporation (Nasdaq:SBUX) today announced revenues and earnings for its fiscal third quarter ended June 29, 2003.

For the 13 weeks ended June 29, 2003, consolidated net revenues increased 24 percent to $1.0 billion from $835 million for the same period in fiscal 2002. Net earnings for the 13-week period ended June 29, 2003 increased 23 percent to $68.4 million from $55.7 million for the same period in fiscal 2002. Diluted earnings per share were $0.17 for the 13-week period ended June 29, 2003, compared to $0.14 for the comparable period in fiscal 2002.
