STRATEGY ANALYTICS: VERIZON WIRELESS'S NATIONAL EV-DO BLUEPRINT WILL APPEAL TO 37M CONNECTED WORKERS & TECHNO-PLAYERS

Boston, MA, USA - January 10, 2004 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- Verizon Wireless's plans to nationally expand its CDMA2000 1xEV-DO footprint to a number of US cities in 2004 is a welcome indicator that the glacially slow commercialization of broadband cellular data is starting to thaw. Yet in a marketplace where an insatiable appetite for bandwidth is coupled with high degrees of both tariff and device price elasticity, mobile data pioneers like Verizon must walk a tightrope to assure profitable service introduction while maintaining a long-term outlook on market expansion.

Unlicensed Broadband Wireless (UBW) Service
a $2 Billion Market by 2008

Sheffield, UK and Worldwide, November 19, 2003 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The annual recurring revenue for access services based on unlicensed broadband wireless (UBW) technologies, currently at $250 million, will approach $2 billion by 2008, according to Unlicensed Broadband Wireless: Solutions and Applications, a new research report from Parks Associates. Residential service revenue will post the most dramatic growth, followed by the small enterprise (SME) market, and the UBW market will have an overall compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 50%.

“In the past two years, the proliferation of wireless ISPs and the declining cost and improved quality of equipment have generated momentum for this industry,” said Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, research analyst with Parks Associates. “Looking forward, service providers will focus not only on expanding their footprint but also increasing the take rate within existing coverage areas. In the meantime, further declines in equipment costs will help more WISPs justify their residential business plans. Also, the industry will get a further boost around 2006 when real benefits from WiMAX standardization start to materialize.”

Underserved markets in the U.S. still represent the low-hanging fruit for service providers using UBW technologies, according to the report. “Underserved market has great growth potentials. It should not be confused with unserved market—areas with monopolistic and even duopolistic market structures can be considered underserved markets as well,” Cai said. “Neither does underserved market necessarily indicate a rural market; newly developed communities and urban edge markets are good candidates for UBW services.”

Unlicensed Broadband Wireless: Solutions and Applications provides analysis and forecasts of the highly complex UBW equipment and service markets. The report profiles more than 20 equipment vendors and their unlicensed products; analyzes different service market segments, including medium-to-large enterprise, SME, residential/SOHO, and MUSH; provides perspectives of incumbent carriers, wireless ISPs, and consumers; addresses market challenges; and forecasts service and equipment revenue growth.

RIAA Legal Campaign Against Music Piracy Having Mixed Results
Campaign Most Effective With Women

Dallas, Texas November 13, 2003 /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The RIAA legal campaign against music piracy has been only partially effective among the broadband population, according to Parks Associates’ latest survey. In general, the campaign has deterred 46% of all households from downloading music illegally off the Internet; however, the RIAA’s efforts have struck a chord more with females than with males. One-half (50%) of women surveyed said the threat of legal action has discouraged them from downloading files illegally, compared with just 40% of men.

Dallas, TX Oct. 17, 2003 — Approximately 1% of all U.S. broadband households currently use broadband wireless access technologies, according to Unlicensed Broadband Wireless: Solutions and Applications, a new report being produced by Parks Associates.
