npower energises with IP telephony and contact centres to differentiate its customer service

GUILDFORD, UK ? Avaya Inc (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that npower has signed a multi-million pound, three year framework agreement, making Avaya its de facto standard for contact centre technology and services. npower, one of the UK?s top three energy suppliers, is standardising on Avaya contact centre technology across all sites to support its 6.5 million customers in the UK. Also, the company is implementing an IP telephony trial at its Gateshead contact centre to increase productivity and reduce costs with
the aim of rolling out the technology to other sites in the future.

TI 802.11 and Bluetooth(r) Technologies Enable Simultaneous Connectivity for HP's New iPAQs


DALLAS (October 13, 2003) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) [NYSE: TXN] announced today that HP's new iPAQ Pocket PC h4150 and iPAQ h4350 include TI's 802.11 wireless LAN (WLAN) technology, single-chip Bluetooth(r) and Bluetooth/WLAN coexistence package for wireless data connectivity. Leveraging TI's wireless communications expertise, the new iPAQs enable consumers to simultaneously utilize the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi(r) features of their PDA without sacrificing battery-life, size or cost. Users can synch-up to their laptop using Bluetooth while they are surfing the Internet with WLAN without interference issues since both technologies operate in the 2.4GHz band.

The satellite-based solution joins Altobridge?s end-to-end GSM gateway with ip.access? nanoBTS? picocellular basestation to provide seamless GSM services on board aircraft and ships. The first prototype is due to be launched in the first quarter of 2004.
