Major U.S. telephone companies have plans to pump video and TV services into homes via their lines, countering recent moves by cable providers to sell Net-based phone services over their systems, telephone executives said Friday.
"We know video's important, we want to have it," said Selim Bingol, a spokesman for telecommunications giant SBC Communications.

Advanced Voting Solutions, a Dallas, Texas area firm has introduced the nation's first voting system using secure Wi-Fi technology. NEW YORK - When bullets are flying, the last thing a soldier wants to hear is "the network is down."
So the Pentagon, about a decade ago, set out to design a wireless communications network that could survive a war.

One design that has emerged, in portable military communications gear used in Afghanistan and now in the Iraqi theater, is called "mobile ad-hoc" or mesh networking. It now appears poised to also link wireless gadgets in the civilian world.
