I have a question on if the stated ranges for wirless products are as good as they say on the box. I want to share an internet connection with my father-in-law. we live next door to each other and I measured 500 feet from computer to computer. If the signal travels in a straight line it would go directly out my window then about 460-470 feet outdoors then through about 30-40 feet of my in-laws house. Now the company that is providing the internet is a wirless T-1 connection. They come and set up a little antena on the house, witch is cool because I fiured it would be another 5 years or so untill they put high speed internet out in the country where I live. anyway they told me that I have to get a router that is 802.11b, g, or super g. I was thinking of getting a Netgear 802.11g router and pci card or USB plug-in. A buddy of mine at work has netgear stuff and he said he loves it. other than his word I have no idea what brands are good or witch ones to watch out for. So in summery here are my questions.
1. Can I/How can I share an internet connection between two desktop computers 500 feet away from each other?
2. What equipment do I need, what equipment is the best. What should I stay away from?
