My friend has recently taken ownership of a small
hotel and during the refurb he has had what
appears to me some cowyboys fitting out internet
access for hotel guests. They have installed a
Netgear router on the ground floor in the reception
and put a network switch next to it. Then on
each of the 6 floors have installed a Netgear
WG102 Wireless Access point hardwired back to the
network switch.(personally I don think it needed an
access point on every floor!) Nothing was configured
and it didnt work at all. I did all that
today, but have some questions as i am no expert
in this:-
a) The network now has 5 access points all open
to the whole world to connect to and use, what
is the best way to secure the network for
free use by hotel guests only.
b) The main hotel PC which houses all the
financial data and booking info is on the same
network but hardwired into the router instead of
wireless. How can I ensure this single PC is
protected from anyone accessing it who is using the
network. I can see people in there hotel rooms
bored and just spending all evening hacking the
hotels main PC!! How do I stop this? Should it
go on a separate broadband connection to the rest
of the network? It is a standard Dell PC with
all the usual Norton firewall and antivirus etc
etc.
