Wi-FI Newbie here but good with pcs in general.
WinXP home 2.4mhz type pc. Netgear WAG311, Apple Airport Express and NTL:Home Broadband ADSL Modem.... Not mine, a friends.
Latest soft/firmware from manufacturers. iTunes.

No Security is currently in place for the Wi-Fi. Just Public...

I have tried to use Apple, Windows and Netgear setups. I can talk to the Apple if I configure Netgear (Host) to IP 10.0.1.n as the Aipport is set to 10.0.1.1. I have never managed to get the yellow light off flashing, which I understand is some problem with it not having an IP. I have reset and factory reset the Airport.
I can play music only if I have the adsl modem powered off/disconnected. As soon as I connect it, iTunes stops. The modem is directly connected to the pc and needs to be as the Airport is remote at the stereo. Firewalls, Zone alarm and WinXP SP2 don't seem to be the problem as they can be up or down.

Even tried the BB connection on 10.0.1.n as well as DHCPing everything.

I have tried to change the AE to other than 10.0.1.1 with the Apple Assistant and it appears to work, but does not as when I change the host, it cannot see the AE. That is a question in itself - it it uses IPs and you change IPs in the AE, it will not be 'aligned' with the host?

Anyhow, my question is how do I have a pc with a hardwired ADSL BB modem connected and run an Apple Airport Express controlling a stereo?

The info pix in the Apple doc shows a config with an Apple Base station daisy chained to the BB Modem and the AE remote controlling the stereo. However, I cannot see a way to hardwire this. I tried a Bridge between the two Network connections but it did not fix it.

It may just be that this setup will not work but I cannot see why not.

Apreciate any thought anyone may have...

Many thanks,
Bob
