Hi all,

I have spent quite a lot of time trying to configure WEP for my Actiontec Wireless Router without any luck. My laptop is a Compaq nw8000 with built in wireless adapter. Using the router without WEP works fine (It works with USB and wirelessly). This is what i do:

I connect to the gateway, with the Internet explorer in the IP 192.168.0.1, go to Wireless settings, choose WEP , then in the next screen choose 64 bit encryption . I do not have an option to use a passphrase so that the keys are created automatically for me, so i have to configure them manually. There are 4 keys i have to put with 5 hexadecimal pairs each. I put the same 5 pairs in all 4 keys exactly as per below (with spaces).

21 21 21 21 21

Is this correct, or should i put different ones? If i put different ones, which one of the 4 keys will i have to input in Windows, when i try to connect?

Then i save and restart the gateway. When the gateway starts again, i go on the wireless adaptor in the Control Panel -> Network Connections ->Wireless network Connection --> Right Click Proprties, i choose the Association tab and then choose WEP for Network Encryption and put the key above 21 21 21 21 21 . I put it with spaces and without spaces. Then, my laptop detects the gateway and i get the prompt to input the WEP key which i do 21 21 21 21 21 twice but no connection takes place. Instead, i am prompted to write the password again ...

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Andreas

Dear andreas,
In ur wireless router U have to select which is the default key u are going to use. Specify the WEP key as 1234567890 in all the 4 fields.

U have given four keys is it. now set the default key to 1.

no in station (PC) give the WEP key and select the default key as 1 there also.

Hope now your connection will be okay. Please dont forget to give the default key
