The Task
This assignment concerns the performace simulation of
WLAN. You are asked to design a WLAN system that
consists of 2-5 access points. You and you group
members will:
• Define the scenarios where the WLAN will be used,
e.g., to cover the CIS lab, to cover a
library, a coffee etc.
• Based on the scenarios you have chosen, you then
carry out requirement analysis, e.g., what kind of
service the WLAN will provide and the Quality of
Service requirements (e.g., coverage, data drop rate,
throughput, packet delay).
• Based on the requirement analysis, you and your
group member will design a WLAN. You design should
take care of the requirements, e.g., if your
system will provides real-time service, you should
think which MAC protocol should be used in your
system.
• Finally, you will carry out simulation studies using
OPNET to assess whether the WLAN system you have
designed can meet the QoS requirements.
