Product Review Summary: The Poet Teacher can Write Too After carefully looking at all possible poetry writing books available for the Kindle, I chose to buy the Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Poetry. In short, this is a terrific book. The author has done a wonderful job of explaining the art of poetry writing at a beginner and intermediate level. He uses his considerable skills of teaching and writing poetry to educate in a concise and entertaining way. I feasted on each chapter until the book's end. I'm now writing poetry with a good sense of perspective.

It explains what a good poem contains: imagery, metaphor...
It teaches you about different poems out there: an aubade, a sonnet, a haiku, etc There are also many exercises.

Product Review Summary: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Writing Poetry. I am very impressed with the ease in which this book makes the subject of poetry. I am now able to write a nice poem. I began writing poetry after reading the 2nd chapter. It made the use of rhyme, stanzas, meter and imigary easy to understand. It also covers the areas of publication and journaling.
If writing poetry interestes you, then journey through the Idiot's Guide, embarking on a verbal path.

Product Review Summary: Creativity I am a poet but not your conventional kind. I write from the spirit within, I guess you can say I write free verse or abstract poetry. I wanted to learn to write different forms and this is an awesome tool to walk you through various poetry forms.
Product Review Summary: Good Material............Faulty Presentation I am trying to write poetry for the first time in my life, so I ordered this book, after so many good reviews. There is so much good information but the exercises did not really inspire me to start writing and did not help me get the most out of the information. There should have been more writing assignments through the chapters instead of the exercises at the ends of the chapters.
The examples should have been quickly followed with exercises which would encourage you more. I would have preferred exercises straight to the point and more relevant to the topics discussed. The exercises should have been more thorough and the author should have given helpful explanations as to how to go about doing the exercises.
There is good advice but too much stuff, some of it condescending which should have been left out, resulting in a shorter book and more straight to the point. A better book is "Creating Poetry" by John Drury, which is on Amazon and good for beginners.
