Product Description
One of the leading references on the design of a building's environmental controls has just gotten better. For years, Heating, Cooling, Lighting has supplied architects and students with the strategies needed for initial design decisions for building systems. The book looks at how to design the form of the building itself to take advantage of natural heating, cooling, and lighting and how to best utilize active mechanical equipment to satisfy the needs not provided by nature. This new edition has been expanded and updated to reflect the latest codes, standards, and energy-efficiency rating systems.

Product Review Summary: Not very informative So far, just a lot of words to explain a few simple points. Each chapter can be explained in a couple of pages.
Product Review Summary: The best book about sustainable design methods for architects "Heating, Cooling, Lighting: Sustainable Design Methods for Architects" is a book that I know since the second edition. I've used this book extensively as resource in my lectures for architectural students. It can be very helpful for architects both in practice and in academic research. The book is well illustrated, the writing is straightforward and, at the same time, comprehensive and thoughtful. It embraces roughly everything you want and must know for doing bioclimatic and sustainable design. The case studies and appendices are also helpful and the latter includes some useful tools for architects, such as the angle-finder (for estimating the height of trees) and the heliodon (an apparatus for sun/shadow analysis). If for any reason you have to choose only one book about sustainable and bioclimatic architectural design to buy, no doubt that this is the one you are looking for.
Product Review Summary: Lighting Designer I am and lighting designer at an engineering firm. This is one of two textbooks from college that I refer to on a regular basis with both my engineering colleagues and my architect clients. Although I have the first edition, concepts in lighting, natural ventilation and daylighting have not significantly changed. I would recommend this book to anyone with beginning to intermediate interest in lighting design and daylighting.
Product Review Summary: Good Book, Easy Read As a mechnical engineer working on energy efficient buildings, this book enabled me to step back view buildings from an architectural point of view. It is easy to read and understand and delivers relevant basic knowledge. Although there are newer books with more update information this book is a good package delivering the basics.
Product Review Summary: Great Book Very informative and easy to read. I picked this book up to study for my Architect's License Exam and found it to be a very well rounded book. There are lots of good ideas for saving energy and good practices for building orientation and construction. There are also plans on how to build a small sun machine for testing your models. My only disappointment were the numerous typos. A good editor could have taken care of that. Otherwise good author, good info. Highly recommended.
