Product Review Summary: A guitar player's review of this instrument I've played guitar for almost 20 years, and also sold them at a prominent local store when I was younger, so I hope my opinion will offer an educated point-of-view. I purchased this for my 3 year old who was always wanting to pick up my guitars. I knew this was what I wanted b/c it uses nylon strings which are FAR easier on the fingers than steel strings. This important detail is often overlooked, but is critical if you want your child to have a "this feels good" association with playing a guitar. Otherwise, steel strings will simply hurt their fingers. Some negative reviews have stated this doesn't hold it's tune very well. To that, I would reply that it's the nature of nylon strings to stretch a lot once they are tuned to the correct pitch, and this can be easily confused with being the guitar's fault--it's not. On a related note, invest in an expensive acoustic guitar tuner if you truly want your child to develop a sense of pitch early on. So, needing to re-tune a few times is totally normal. The instrument is surprisingly well-built, and sounds surprisingly good considering the cost and size. He loves to strum it, and does so many times a day. I would absolutely recommend this over most any other "starter guitar."
Product Review Summary: Bargain for the price This is a terrific guitar for a first time player. We bought it for my son who is 4 and the quality is so much better than we expected. A friend who plays the guitar really well tuned it up and said the quality was surprisingly excellent...good enough to actually take lessons on for youngsters.
Product Review Summary: Great guitar for a small child learning to play I purchased this guitar for my 4 year old when she started asking for lessons. The sound quality is fine. It isn't anywhere near as good as the vintage hand-made spanish guitar I play, but that's hardly to be expected. It's definitely playable and certainly adequate for a young child beginning to learn classical guitar. According to my daughter's guitar teacher, this is as good as any of the available half-size guitars. As some raters have commented, the strings slip like crazy at the beginning and will not stay in tune for even a few minutes. This is a function of the strings being new and has nothing to do with the guitar itself. My daughter has been playing for about 3 months now and her guitar only requires minor tuning after being left in its case for a day.
Product Review Summary: A guitar for younger children I recently ordered 2 of these guitars for my children to use for guitar lessons, based on a recommendation of the Hohner brand by a local guitar shop. The recommended age on this item goes up to age 9, however I found them to be much too small for my children who are ages 7 and 10. It is only 29 1/2 inches long. It would be perfect for a child, maybe 5 and under. And while my children could still "play" with them, we need something more appropriate for lessons. I had to fudge on the ratings, since we are returning them, and the review form requires a rating. However, they did seem to be solidly built, nice guitars. We'll stick with Hohner, but go up in size.
Product Review Summary: Very Pleased... I didn't expect much before I bought the guitar, but, afterwards I was very pleased. It is easy to tune and has good guitar strings. My daughter loves it. For a starter guitar (especially for a child with small hands) this was a good deal.
