Product Description

Wireless-G is the 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country - but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment.Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

Product Review Summary: Linksys WRT54G

This is the exact router we needed. Just going through a divorce and needed to set up wireless internet for my older mac laptop. Works like a charm!

Product Review Summary: Worst router ever

Speed randomly drops 10 times from 1mb to 100kb, sometimes network is undetectable, customer support can only tell you how to reset it without any actual help.

Product Review Summary: Very disappointed

I purchased the Linksys WRT54G router a couple years ago. There is no way i have found to remove old computers once connected to the router. I wanted to remove a roommate that had moved out and an old work computer - pretty minor, but i dont understand why this isnt a feature. A much more important concern; I use my router for streaming Netflix to my tv (wireless) and for gaming on my computer (ethernet cable). I have run into frequent problems with my router locking up during my gaming. I have also run into streaming issues with wireless connects to my TV. The tv issues have been both quality and losing connection. When i reset my router and computer the problems corrected. Rebooting my computer alone does not fix any of these problems. Time for me to buy a real router. If you dont like to reset your router every week, dont purchase this one!

Product Review Summary: Good Stable Wireless

I've owned three of these, one was damaged by a power surge during a thunderstorm, one I unplugged and moved to my father's and the one I replaced that with is still going strong. Easy installation, setup and use...the one I moved to my father's required no reconfiguration at all and suffice to say, he is not technologically savvy but still manages to connect with no problems. Reliability is good, does sometimes lock up and require you to cycle power to "reboot" and while it does offer ability to spoof a MAC address and can be made to work in settings where that is required, it isn't very well documented.

Product Review Summary: The Worst

This is a belated review. I actually bought this router 4.5 years ago. It was a Version 2.0. It was an awful first experience for a home wireless network. Initial setup wasn't too difficult. But, it would drop its wireless signal every few days and need to be completely reconfigured. I spent numerous hours on the phone with Linksys Tech Support (India) over several weeks to get my network going again. I finally gave up, but the return period had expired.

After on-line research and word-of-mouth recommendations, I bought a Netgear WGR614. It has just failed after 4.5 years and I have purchased the same Netgear model as a replacement. It has never dropped its wireless signal.

It is possible Linksys has improved this router over the years. I know this is probably the most common router out there. But, I would never consider one again.
