Product Review Summary: Worked perfectly! I bought this to install an IP camera on a radio tower. Since I didn't want to run a power cable & an ethernet cable up the tower, PoE seemed like the right way to go. Out of the box, this PoE adapter worked flawlessly. SUPER easy to setup (no software)... just plug and play. I used a very inexpensive camera that had a 5VDC power requirement, so it went together in no time. I love the fact that with the terminal and dongle, you can power a non-PoE compliant device! Very cool.
One thing to keep in mind is that your device must accept either 12V or 5VDC. You can't power many Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras or other high-current devices with it. This DLINK adapter only provides 12VDC or 5VDC through the ethernet cable, so if your device requires something else, you'll need to keep looking. But in my case, this thing worked without a hitch.
So far, I can't find a thing wrong with this, especially for the $$!
Product Review Summary: PoE review BB-HCM531 camera requires 48V and 130 mA poewr over Ethernet. It won't work with 5V-12V power inserter. Be aware using D-Link product.
Product Review Summary: Great Product for Remote Reset of Routers Even when you can't get power to a remote router, you can take advantage of your ethernet line to operate the unit and it provides the means to easily reset the unit by toggling the power remotely. This solution is perfect for an application where power is not available in a ceiling or in the rafters for running a wireless access point or router.
Product Review Summary: Easy and fast way to reduce wire clutter Installation went without a hitch, excellent directions. My reason for 4 stars is that the power adapter cord to the device that you are powering thru this system only has one size of "barrel plug", about 3mm. Fortunately it fit my Netgear WGR614 wireless G router, but some newer routers (such as the popular D-link DIR-855) have a larger power port, and no adapter is included in this kit. Also make sure that your device to be powered thru this adapter is either 5V DC (2.5A) or 12V DC (1A), which are the only two outputs that can be selected. D-link also cautions that the device must be "compliant with IEEE 802.3af standard", meaning that the data is transmitter through the 1,2,3,6 wires of the ethernet cable and power through 4,5,7,8 wires (this is the most common wiring configuration).
Product Review Summary: Great for my camera! I used this for a d-link camera and it worked great - directions could have been a tad easier - or better labeling on the components themselves. Make sure you read the directions closely.
