Product Review Summary: D-link Pocket wireless Great product, easy to use.
highly recommended to buy.
bought two for travel use.
Product Review Summary: Great LITTLE Wireless Device There are many other reviews that extol the virtues of this little AP/Rtr, but I love it and felt compelled to make a couple of points. SIZE: the unit is smaller than a pack of cigarettes. I'm using it to connect my DVR to my wireless network. I had an AP, actually a regular wireless Rtr set to AP mode, placed on top of my DVR. It was glaringly noticable and UGLY! This unit is black, as is my DVR, and is so tiny one doesnt even notice it unless you are looking for it!
One minor con: When set to Client mode, by design DHCP doesnt work. This is fine once its up and running because it gets the IP from the Primary Rtr. But it means that you have to set your PC for a Static IP in order to access/configure the unit. I'm a Network Engineer, so this was not a problem for me, but I suspect many people who buy the unit will have to call support in order to get past this hurdle, if they are setting it up in Client mode. In Rtr and AP modes it gives out IP addresses, so one wont have this problem.
Product Review Summary: Tiny router serious WORKHORSE Well, guess this is long overdue. I actually purchased this router bout a month after it came out and still to this day this thing is a CHAMPION. I've used it with my xbox, xbox 360, laptops, setup a wireless network to stream music to psp's while on deployment in our shop (US Navy), and just about every other thing you can want to do with a router. In other words for what it is, I maxed the heck outta putting it to use and its still trucking along. Come on people for it's size don't expect to get some crazy range on it, but for its size the range is really good. This is one product that I can say will be well worth the money if you are in need of something like this.
Product Review Summary: Great travel product, works as advertised!! I travel frequently, and often times I am in a hotel room with a Ethernet cable that is about 3 ft long. I prefer to use my laptop on the couch, or in bed, and was extremely irritated by the short cables I encountered. For a while, my solution was to carry a 10 ft. Ethernet cable around, and then I ended up in a suite, where the access point was about 20 feet away.. :-)
So, after looking around and reading the reviews, I purchased this device and it has worked like a charm.
First off, it's tiny, about half the size of a pack of cards. Easy to carry - slips into a pocket in your laptop case, or your equipment pouch.
Second, it can be powered either through a wall adapter that works on both 120v and 220v - an important consideration if you travel overseas, as well as a USB cable. Very convenient. I have used it in a number of locations with different voltages (Europe, Japan, India, Ireland, etc.) and all I need is a multi plug adapter, like this All-in-One Travel Power Plug Adapter for US, UK, EU, AU, (which I always have a couple of - not perfect but works OK in 95% of the mish-mash that is the international electrical system)
Third - it can be configured to handle a direct connection (from your cable/DSL provider) as a modem/router or work off an existing router. I have used it in both modes - all you need to do is to slide a switch on the bottom of the unit and a little set up using the supplied or any available Ethernet cable. It also can be used to connect to an existing wireless network and create a wireless sub-net, bit I have not had to use this so far..
Fourth - configuration is a breeze - took all of 2 minutes once I understood what I needed to do. Just like a regular wireless router, I quickly gave this device a name, enabled encryption (WEP or WPA) and was able to connect. I then set up MAC address filtering and further secured my new network.
Fifth - in spite of its small size and lack of a visible antenna, the range is really good. I was able to work all around a 3 bed apartment with no issues. However, on one occasion I was across 2 really thick brick walls, and I lost connectivity.
There are plenty of other standard features that I don't expect to really need...
All in all, this is a great product that does exactly what it is expected to do, with minimum effort on the user's part..
Product Review Summary: Works perfectly! I was traveling and would be staying at places that had in-room internet but not WiFi. Great if you have a laptop but I wanted to travel light so was only bringing my iPhone. This little D-Link worked perfectly!
You can use it with the defaults, but it's probably better to connect it to a PC ahead of time and configure the AP's SSID and security. That took less than 10 minutes.
The Client mode is very useful for connecting something to your home WiFi network - I use it for a Davis weather station with IP logger.
It even comes with a nice case!
I think D-Link has done an exceptional job with this product.
