Product Description

The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, theres the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. Theres also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house.

Product Review Summary: Easy installation on PC, Poor on MAC

I am running the router with a PC and a MAC at home.
The installation CD does not provide MAC software and the custiomer service (website, chat, phone) is poor. Since my PC didn't have a CD drive, I ended up buying an external one.
Installation on a PC is very easy though and from the start it worked flawless in WPA2 mode on both the PC and the MAC.
Reception and Reliability are great.
--> Buy this product if you have a PC or if you feel comfortable installing it manually on a MAC (I had no idea how to do that).

Product Review Summary: Works well so far

I flashed the router's firmware with DD-WRT immediately after getting it, and it's working well so far. I haven't had any problems with it, and the WiFi/WPA encryption works with all the wireless devices in my home (laptop, Wii, and iPhone), which I couldn't say about the old router built into my modem.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I haven't had a chance to really give it a run for its money, but I'm confident it's going to serve me well.

Product Review Summary: Great for Telecommuting!

I was having problems with telecommuting through my previous router - VPN was constantly disconnecting and occasionally not working at all for days at a time. Since I've installed this router I've had absolutely no problems and the inefficiencies I just accepted are a thing of the past!

Product Review Summary: Simply impossible to configure

For some people, this product will work fine but, given the configuration nightmare I've had with this thing for the last 6 months, I'd guess its about 50% of the users. I have a very deep understanding of networking internals and I have spent 6 hours with this device each time I changed something (bought a Tivo? 6 hours thanks to the router. Bought a Wii? 6 more hours futzing with the router). What garbage. This is my second wireless router and my second linksys router. Both were pretty much junk (although the old one was cheaper and I managed to beat 6 years out of it). Never, NEVER buy a Linksys router. They are legendary for being 'for advanced users' which is shorthand for 'they dont work' (again, I am an advanced user).

Product Review Summary: Mac users information

The set up disc that comes with this linksys router only works on PC's to set up the wireless connection. In order to set up for wireless reception on the MAC there is a $10 charge. There were some additional complications in my case as I had to connect through my old Linksys router/modem. Set-up taking several hours total part of which was due to equipment malfunction at Linksis help phone site. Hopefully problem will get resolved and I will be connected wirelessly.
