Product Review Summary: Good product but I needed a SATA cable. This drive was cheap but it did not come with a SATA cable. My older compaq had extra ports for the cable but it did not have an extra cable. UNLESS YOUR COMPUTER ALREADY HAS AN EXTRA OR THE OLD DVD DRIVE USED THIS, YOU MUST BUY THIS CABLE SEPERATE. Not a big problem but I wish I would have known this earlier. Now I am ordering a sata cable for a couple bucks online and waiting for it too.
Product Review Summary: Very easy to install and quick to use This was the first internal SATA drive I ever installed, and it couldn't've been easier. Note that the cables aren't included, so hopefully your computer comes with them.
The copy of Nero that comes with the drive is solid and easy to use. Older versions of Nero have been a bit convoluted, but this version is very slick, and my wife was able to make both data and video DVDs within minutes, having never used any version of Nero before.
Product Review Summary: Fast Fast Fast Fast and then Faster UPDATE March 10, 2010: With the new Firmware I copied the same movie from disk to disk (over 8gb) in just 8 minutes. This just keeps getting better.
I bought two of these babies and I totally love them.
I burned four movies on four 8.5GB DL DVD. Each movie filled a little over 8GB on each disc. Using one drive for the original and the other for the copy.
Each disc was burned inside 15 minutes. Not bad at all.
It had no flaws or any problems. I viewed all four of the movies and they were perfect.
I also burned an audio CD full to the max and it burned it in three minutes using Nero. Wow. No flaws at all.
They are super quiet. I don't really know what the other reviewer was talking about that these drives had no lights. They do have green lights and blink as they are operating. Good enough for me.
Highly recommend.
Product Review Summary: Excellent Drive I purchased this optical drive to replace recently purchased and returned Sony Optiarc. The Sony met all the specs I was looking for: DVD burner, Dual Layer writing, Lightscribe, SATA interface. But I made some coasters while trying to burn dual layer dvd's. After doing research online on several newsgroups I discovered that totally reliable optical drives are not that easily accessible. This Samsung drive also had all the featuers I wanted and was available for a decent price. Since day one, the drive has performed without a hitch in either reading or burning DVD's and writing with lightscribe. Highly recommended drive.
Product Review Summary: Bad Drive from Samsung This DVD burner didn't last very long. It will not burn past the 98% of the data, and it would failed only about 70% of the time. At first I thought I got a bad batch of DVDs. After switching to several brands of DVDs, I got the same results. I was thinking at buying a SAMSUNG BD player, but not anymore!
