SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- California may soon join Virginia and Mississippi as the first states in the nation to use secure wireless technology in the voting process. Advanced Voting Solutions, a Dallas, Texas area firm has introduced the nation's first voting system using secure Wi-Fi technology. The system, called the WINvote has recently been certified in the state of California.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to introduce this innovative solution into the California elections environment," said Bryan Finney, Regional Manager for AVS. "As more and more elections are conducted electronically, the more important it becomes to ease the burden on poll workers and elections staff," he added.
"With this secure wireless system, poll workers and staff can open the poll, close the polls and load the election in minutes, with a simple touch of one button," Finney stated.
Advanced Voting Solutions' WINvote Touch Screen system has recently been selected by Fairfax County, VA for that county's 550,000 registered voters. Fairfax joined six other jurisdictions in using the WINvote system in the November '02 election. Connie Cochran, then chairman of the Hinds County, MS election board, the first jurisdiction in the country to use the WINvote system said, "It's been the best election day I've ever seen in Mississippi history."
"The WINvote system was deployed in the November election in multiple jurisdictions across the country," said Howard Van Pelt, president of Advanced Voting Solutions. "We were extremely pleased with the way it performed and by the response of the voters and elections staff who gave very positive reviews to the intuitive system."
'We expect these successful experiences to validate WINvote's presence in the marketplace and create awareness among election administrators that there are significant cost and time saving advantages with the WINvote's next generation voting technology," he added.
