ZTE Launches World Leading CDMA-Based Digital Trunking Technology

ZTE Launches World Leading CDMA-Based Digital Trunking Technology

Key development for Chinese and international markets is latest R & D success for company

March 20, 2004 /Wi-Fi Technology News/-ZTE Corporation has launched its world-leading GoTa Digital Trunking Communication System ? a CDMA-based new generation digital trunking technology for Chinese and international markets. The launch took place in Beijing...

GoTa (Global open Trunking architecture) has been independently developed and launched by ZTE - the first time a Chinese enterprise has launched a digital trunking product that has an independent intellectual property right. The system has considerable benefits including wireless resource sharing technology and instantaneous connection to other users, preventing newly added trunking services having a negative impact on the traditional communications services and network resources.

?This is a product that the world?s public mobile radio market has been waiting for and we are extremely proud to have developed it exclusively within our research and development facilities in China,? said Dr. James Jiang, general manager of ZTE San Diego.

?For China, GoTa will break the current monopoly enjoyed by foreign vendors with this type of technology offering, while we also see great potential in our fast-growing international markets?.

Being one of the most significant applications in wireless communications, trunking communication is chiefly applied to the professional mobile communications field. Unlike conventional digital trunking systems, ZTE?s GoTa digital trunking mobile communications system makes use of CDMA technology to solve the key techniques in delivering trunking services. It allows large numbers of trunking users to share relatively fewer communication resources and dramatically improves the speed of call connection. The system gives fast access, much improved channel efficiency, enhanced privacy and the flexibility to expand the system as demand grows.

ZTE has also launched its own commercial GoTa trunking terminals to promote the commercial use of the GoTa trunking system, and will continually roll out a series of terminal products including vehicle-mounted and professional terminals.

ZTE is already working with China Railways? Communications Department, China Satellite Communication and other telecom carriers to work on related technical tests, intending to bring GoTa technology into national standards as soon as possible and meanwhile promoting the industrialization of China?s home-made trunking products.

The launch of ZTE?s GoTa trunking system worldwide further demonstrates ZTE?s great strength in the global CDMA industry. As China?s top CDMA brand, ZTE has a full package of CDMA products with its own IPR and is capable of delivering more value-added services. ZTE has consecutively rolled out new products and services to the market including the GoTa trunking communications system, the encrypted communications system and GSM1X.

ZTE?s advanced all-IP based CDMA 3G products are characterized by industry-leading performance, the highest integration, the largest capacity and the most flexible networking modes. With its rich network construction experience, professional and customized services, ZTE has more than 12 million lines of its CDMA equipment widely deployed in over 30 countries, and has become the largest CDMA equipment supplier in China.

The GoTa system is a mobile communications system for the dispatching of group users, which is chiefly applied in the private mobile communications field. The private mobile communications were developed from early point-to-point half-duplex mobile interphones to the present multi-channel and multi-BS trunking communications system, capable of providing voice and various non-voice services. The technology adopted was also evolved from the early analogue to the current digital. Unlike conventional mobile communications systems, trunking communications systems feature push-to-talk connection by pressing the PTT button. It provides fast connection and the called party can receive the call without the need of picking up the phone. Also, the system supports group call service.

In 2002, ZTE organized its R&D institutes at home and abroad to conduct research on new trunking technology and put forward the concept of the GoTa digital trunking system.

GoTa, referred to as Global open Trunking architecture, employs the latest wireless technology and protocol standards adopted in the present mobile communications system. Being optimized and improved, the wireless technology and protocol standards can meet the technical requirement for the trunking system. With powerful common network operating capability and good service expandability, GoTa can also satisfy the requirement for future development of trunking communications.

GoTa is capable of providing a variety of trunking services:
? One-to-one private calls and one-to-many group calls
? The ability to set the user?s priority
? The ability to perform forced insertion/forced release based on the user?s priority
? The ability to provide special services such as system paging, group paging, sub-group paging, and dedicated PTT service as required

? The ability to classify the groups into permanent and temporary groups, in which the group members can be managed by the user.

In addition to trunking service, GoTa can provide new value-added services such as SMS, LBS and VPN. These services are combined to offer integrated services to group users.

GoTa technology offers several advantages over conventional trunking communications:
? Advanced technology ? employing 3G wireless technology and advanced system structure to bring new space for service development of trunking technology

? Feature-rich services ? capitalizing on the combination of trunking service and value-added services to attract large amounts of users to access the network

? Less investment and more cost-effectiveness
