Boingo Wireless announced a roaming agreement with Truckstop.net
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - March 26, 2004 -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- Boingo Wireless announced a roaming agreement with Truckstop.net, the leader in wireless Internet connectivity for the truck stop and travel plaza industry. The agreement will add more than 500 roadside Wi-Fi hot spots to the Boingo? Roaming System.
So-called ?windshield warriors? ? mobile sales people, traveling professionals, truck drivers, and others ? increasingly use Wi-Fi to manage their time and their businesses from the road. Wireless Internet access at a travel plaza provides a convenient means to plan travel logistics, check email, look into road conditions, report status or problems and access corporate Intranets and Web applications.
?Wi-Fi is successful in travel plazas for the same reason it is successful in airports ? both are places where business travelers congregate and use their transition time to get work done,? said Dave Hagan, Boingo president and COO. ?The success of Truckstop.net is another example of the growing Wi-Fi footprint, which is allowing more users to count on having access where and when they need it. This is vital for our Platform Services customers such as EarthLink, Fiberlink, Infonet, MCI and Telecom Italia.?
Truckstop.net?s ?HotStops? are located across the U.S. and in Canada. The company has partnered with leading travel plaza operators including Love?s Travel Stops, Petro Stopping Centers, Pilot Travel Centers, Sapp Bros. Truck Stops, Rip Griffin Travel Centers and other fuel stations and truck stop operators, to ensure that its hot spots are in the most convenient locations. The company expects to grow to 1,000 live hot spots by the end of the year and foresees adding 300 new locations to its network every quarter for the next few years.
?Our users turn to wireless for convenience and the ability to stay in contact and get their work done on incredibly tight time schedules. More and more transportation professionals realize timely communication is essential, and this demand is fueling our rapid growth,? said Scott Moscrip, president of Truckstop.net. ?By working with Boingo and continuing to grow our network, we?re able to provide convenient and seamless Wi-Fi access in more locations to more end users.?
With this agreement, the Boingo Roaming System expands to include more than 70 network operators and 6,500 hot spots under contract worldwide. Boingo packages this roaming system, along with its end-user Wi-Fi software and a complete suite of back-office billing, roaming, mediation and clearinghouse services into its Boingo Platform Services offering. Platform Service is a turnkey service that can be branded and launched by service providers as a low-cost, rapid time-to-market alternative to building their own networks. Current announced Platform Services customers include EarthLink, Fiberlink, Infonet Services, MCI and Telecom Italia.
