On-line TV Specialist delivers video content to mobile devices over GPRS

On-line TV Specialist delivers video content to mobile devices over GPRS

London, 30 March 2004 ?/Wi-Fi Technology News/- TelecomTV, the world?s only Web-TV content provider for the global telecoms sector has successfully completed trials of its revolutionary wireless video service, TelecomTV2go.

In partnership with leading developer of mass market mobile video technology, Oplayo, TelecomTV pushed video highlights of last months 3GSM World Congress to a variety of mobile devices over existing 2.5g networks.

?Whilst most media owners are waiting for the advent of 3g to supply video over wireless, our partnership with Oplayo has allowed us to broadcast TV based content to viewers with existing GPRS enabled handsets? says TelecomTV MD, Sean Carr.

Using a GPRS mobile phone, the user/viewer can call up ?playlists? of video programmes, from which they simply select one to watch right there and then. Direct one-click links can even be sent by content owners or distributors via SMS, making the viewing of a programme even easier for the user.

?People are making money right now by marketing their brand or service on mobile video,? says Philip O?Ferrall, MD of Oplayo. ?Companies like Endemol [creators and owners of Big Brother], who want to reach out to their consumers and offer them something special. The user sends in an SMS containing the name of the programme, then they are sent back the player application and they can straight away start to enjoy the rich experience of video which either can?t be shown on terrestrial TV or is a special value-add service; either way it is high value.?

If you want to try out mobile video for yourself, visit http://www.telecomtv.com/2go. If you have a compatible handset, then just follow the instructions to experience the demonstration service, which features TelecomTV?s editorial video footage from the 2004 3GSM World Congress.
