FIRELINK FINALIST COGENT ANNOUNCES TETRAPOL 2004.IP
Newport, South Wales, 14th April 2004 -/Wi-Fi Technology News/- The key to the integration of all communications media, and therefore the foundation of future public safety and security networks, has been announced by Cogent, the UK operating company of EADS Defence and Communication Systems.
TETRAPOL 2004.IP technology ensures the availability of all information on the same platform with identical security standards. Data and voice can be available wherever public safety and security forces happen to be. At this month?s BAPCO event, EADS will present TETRAPOL 2004.lP in actual use (base station, control node).
TETRAPOL is the world?s most widely deployed professional digital mobile communications standard, with over 80 systems deployed in 34 countries. TETRAPOL?s standardised end-to-end encryption, combined with inbuilt security, provides the highest possible level of protection for voice and data communications. Cogent?s TETRAPOL 2004.IP proposal has been shortlisted to provide the new Firelink network for the UK Fire and Rescue Service, due for implementation by 2007.
With TETRAPOL 2004.IP, Cogent is marketing a new-generation digital radio system for public safety and security forces. Based on IP technology (Internet Protocol), this system provides significant technical and economic benefits. TETRAPOL 2004.IP was shown in action at this year?s CeBIT show in Germany.
Key advantages of TETRAPOL 2004.IP include:
? Lower infrastructure and line costs
? A single data network for radio communications and data systems
? IP telephony is possible over the same line network
? Existing data networks are included, such as intranets
? Applications are implemented cost-effectively
? Redundancy ensures high operational reliability
? End-to-end encryption provides a high level of security
? Optimised load distribution during peak times
For digitised voice and data transmissions, the system utilises existing IP-based data networks (IP backbone) as far as possible. Voice communications are no longer transmitted over a separate network, but are instead compressed and transmitted in the form of IP packets over the same network as other data. It is therefore no longer necessary to deploy, maintain and service several separate networks. Analogue and digital, wireless and wired networks are readily interlinked by IP interfaces.
The TETRAPOL 2004.IP radio system for safety and security forces provides all basic services: group communication, individual and multi-address calls, conference calls, secure emergency calls, direct mode ? as well as handover and pager. Additional features that are provided as a matter of course include data transmission with database access and automatic position fixing with the help of GPS. The robust radio interface remains the same, and consequently, so does the advantage that few base stations are needed. TETRAPOL 2004.IP employs the latest Vocoder technology to boost voice quality and voice capacity to unprecedented levels.
With over 70 per cent of the digital European PMR market share, TETRAPOL is the only radio communications solution that has consistently proved its reliability and efficiency in high security deployments. Approved by the ITU and the Police Co-operation Group (formerly Schengen Group), nationwide TETRAPOL networks can be found in Spain, France, Singapore, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Romania and Mexico, where the IRIS network is the largest PMR network in the world.
