Telecom Americas Group Operators Select LogicaCMG MMS Platform
SAO PAULO, Brazil, May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LogicaCMG today announced an agreement with Telecom Americas Group to deploy LogicaCMG's Multimedia Messaging solution. This new deal establishes LogicaCMG as the key supplier of messaging solutions for the Telecom Americas Group in Latin America and consolidates its leadership position in the South American multimedia messaging market.
LogicaCMG offers a high-availability, high-performance solution for Telecom Americas, which will enable it to launch new multi media messaging services (MMS) that allow subscribers to send and receive content-rich multimedia messages including photos, audio and video clips. MMS services are only a part of a total messaging solution, which includes short messaging services (SMS) and WAP.
The LogicaCMG solution will be installed at ATL, an operator located in Rio de Janeiro and will also serve other group companies operating in the Brazilian market -- Tess, Claro, Americel and BSE. The contract also includes the regions covered by the new SMP (Servico Movel Pessoal or Personal Mobile Service PMS) licenses purchased by Telecom Americas in November 2002 -- Grande Sao Paulo, Parana and Santa Catarina.
Dick Blom, regional director of LogicaCMG for South America, said: "LogicaCMG's solution enables operators to quickly launch new revenue -- generating services to their subscriber base. Our technical excellence and expertise in delivering total messaging solutions including MMS, SMS, WAP and CBS worldwide differentiated LogicaCMG and meant that we were the only company in the region that could offer Telecom Americas the support it needed in order to drive its mobile services revenues."
LogicaCMG has a global MMS market share in excess of 20 per cent, with commercially deployed MMS solutions servicing over 65 million subscribers around the world. LogicaCMG is the global leader in messaging and payments, supplying messaging and billing solutions to 250 of the world's top operators in over 70 countries. These solutions serve over 500 million active mobile phone subscribers.
Scenario
Telecom Americas, controlled by Mexican group America Movil, was the major winner of the SMP D and E band license auction held in November 2002. It purchased the most sought-after license, the one for the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region, as well as licenses in Bahia, Sergipe, Parana and Santa Catarina. With this, it became the second great group from mobile telephony with national cover.
Aside from its position in the Brazilian mobile telephony ranking, Telecom Americas has been the focus of every telecommunications infrastructure, product and service vendor's attention due to the substantial investments that are foreseen to promote the migration from the TDMA standard, used by the group's four operators, to GSM. The more than 35 million cell phone users in Brazil mainly use the TDMA and CDMA standards, but GSM, which just hit the market last year, is the one that shows the greatest growth rate, particularly because it has been the most common option to replace the TDMA standard.
