Fortress and AirDefense to Discuss Implications of DoD Wireless Directive

Fortress and AirDefense to Discuss Implications of DoD Wireless Directive

-/May 24, 2004 Wi-Fi Technology News/-This webcast will provide analysis and interpretation of what the DoD?s 8100.2 directive means to government agencies and how wireless solutions can ensure compliance with this policy. The webcast will feature WLAN security experts and practitioners who will draw upon real-world case studies to illustrate deployment of risk-free wireless LANs and adherence to the DoD directive in their organizations.

The 90-minute session is intended for agencies that must comply with the directive, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Combatant Command, Office of Inspector General, military departments and DoD contractors.

Why: Directive 8100.2 establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for the use of commercial wireless devices, services and technologies in the DoD Global Information Grid. It directs the development and use of a knowledge management process to promote the sharing of wireless technology capabilities, vulnerabilities and vulnerability mitigation strategies throughout the DoD. With this directive, the Pentagon seeks to stabilize the risks posed by wireless, such as sniffing, hacking and denial of service. Through the 8100.2 directive the military is required to encrypt unclassified data sent from wireless devices using FIPS 140-2-approved encryption. Doing this, the DoD is steadily raising the bar for wireless security within the organization.
