WeRoam offers over 70 attractive Wi-Fi hotspots in Berlin

WeRoam offers over 70 attractive Wi-Fi hotspots in Berlin / Roaming agreement with BerlinNet opens up wireless Internet access in Germany's capital for international WeRoam clients

Berlin, -/May 26, 2004 Wi-Fi Technology News/- Germany's capital, Berlin, is a magnet for people visiting from home and abroad on business or for pleasure and, as the city is also home to the national government, it is the workplace for numerous foreign correspondents, diplomats and business people.

Leading global WLAN roaming platform WeRoam is therefore expanding its network by over 70 attractive Wi-Fi hotspot locations in Berlin. The roaming partner that has been selected is BerlinNet, the region's market leader and a subsidiary of the city carrier BerliKomm.

The newly acquired hotspots encompass the major parties' headquarters, the federal press conference building, as well as numerous ministries and permanent representations of Germany's federal states. Needless to say, the WLAN access also extends to many hotels, cafes and restaurants as well as well-frequented public places - such as the market square Hardenbergplatz or the street "Unter den Linden". WeRoam users in Berlin can now enjoy the special comfort of using wireless broadband Internet access via SIM authentication. Prepaid voucher cards are therefore a thing of the past. Even the invoicing is easy as the costs are charged to the customer's monthly bill with his own mobile phone provider.

BerlinNet has been operating Berlin's leading WLAN service since late 2001 and is also experiencing a dramatic rise in demand for wireless Internet access. The open roaming platform WeRoam has a wireless footprint of 10,000 hotspots worldwide and makes Internet access while traveling as easy as using a mobile phone. Thanks to SIM authentication, no matter where the user may be located, the only form of identification required is a PIN number.

    Background:

BerlinNet GmbH is a fully-owned subsidiary of BerliKomm Telekommunikationsgesellschaft mbH. With over 70 active locations, the company is Berlin's leading provider of wireless broadband Internet access which is based on WLAN technology. At the same time, it is one of the largest WISPs (Wireless Internet Service Providers) in Germany.

WeRoam facilitates the seamless integration of WLAN and GSM network technologies, enabling global roaming for WLAN services. Key solutions found in GSM technology have been adopted to make up the WeRoam service, which provides secure authentication, signaling conversion, clearing and settlement services. This positions WeRoam as the only open roaming platform supporting all relevant authenticcation methods for WLAN Roaming such as SIM, Radius and EAP SIM. The wireless footprint includes today 10.000 Wi-Fi hotspot locations worldwide.

The company was established in 2001 and is owned by TOGEWA Holding (Switzerland) and Infonet Service Corporation (USA). WeRoams innovative SIM based WLAN roaming solution is patent pending.
