PanGo Enhances Platform for Location-Aware Systems

PanGo Enhances Platform for Location-Aware Systems

New PanOS(tm) software responds to growing demand for scalable mobile business applications

Framingham, MA -/July 20, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- PanGo Networks, the leading provider of location-aware systems for wireless LANs today announced enhancements to its flagship software technology. Previously known as the Proximity Platform, the new PanOS(tm) is a software platform that bridges the gap between wireless networks and important business applications. The technology allows customers to transform their existing wireless LAN into an infrastructure for valuable, location-aware applications.

PanOS provides three key services: first, the capability to locate computers and other devices connected to a wireless LAN; second, tools to create and manage intelligent spaces in which tracking can be monitored, logged and reported; and third, an application development and management environment for intelligent wireless application services.

According to Adam Zawel, Director, Wireless & Mobile Enterprise & Commerce Strategies at Yankee Group, "Most large businesses have either deployed or are about to deploy WLANs. These businesses are now starting to get creative by using these networks to improve business processes. Over the next two years, hospitals, retailers, and manufacturers will intensify implementations of WLAN location-based services as they seek to improve operations and increase ROI. PanGo's system sits on top of the core WLAN infrastructure, enabling companies to use the location-based capabilities of the network they have already deployed."

Unlike other technologies in the market, PanOS is more than positioning middleware, it is a complete framework that allows enterprise customers to quickly deploy and manage a wide range of location-based applications. Later this summer, PanGo will introduce additional applications that leverage the new features of the PanOS.

The enhancements are in direct response to growing demand for highly scalable, locationing services. Specific improvements to the system include:

? Improved scalability that now supports thousands of devices and assets on a PanOS-based system.

? Added support for "light-client" and "no-client" locationing techniques. PanOS now supports multiple locationing models that require little or no software on the client device, and importantly, no special hardware or firmware modifications. This flexible approach will allow for a wider range of applications and simpler integration with wireless LAN management systems.

"Wireless networks are no longer merely an infrastructure technology," said Michael Campbell, PanGo President and CEO. "Because WLANs are pervasive, they enable business applications in ways that networks never have before.
These product enhancements ensure that our customers and partners can leverage wireless technology for much more than untethered data access and realize tremendous ROI."

PanOS is shipping immediately as an integrated component of all new application systems and is available to partners for development and deployment with third party applications. PanOS runs on Windows NT, 2000, XP; Solaris or Linux operating systems.
