Men Want TiVo? More Than Women

Men Want TiVo? More Than Women

Dallas, Texas -/August 06, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Male heads-of-household are more likely than their female counterparts to buy a personal video recorder (PVR) over the next year, according to the upcoming report Video-on-Demand and PVR: Analysis and Forecast from Parks Associates.

In a recent survey, 21% of male heads-of household said they are likely to purchase a PVR in the next 12 months, compared with just 16% of female heads-of-household.

?Men are more inclined to buy new entertainment products and services,? said John Barrett, director of research at Parks Associates. ?For example, male heads-of-household are slightly more likely to subscribe to digital cable or use a video-on-demand service. Once women become familiar with such products and services, however, spending patterns change. Take DVD players, for example. Male headed-households are more likely to own a DVD player today but female-heads of households are more likely to buy one, simply because they are later adopters. We will likely see a similar trend with PVRs. Men will buy first, then women.?
