Telsis adds interoperability with Siemens core network switches



EWE TEL First To Deploy Telsis Intelligent Services Platform For Siemens Switch Users



-/16 September, 2004 - Wi-Fi Technology News/- Text and voice infrastructure supplier Telsis has added interoperability with Siemens core network switches to its proven Ocean fastSCP intelligent services platform, making flexible and economical value added services available to yet more telcos.

The move means network operators with single vendor or multi vendor networks based on Ericsson, Nokia and now Siemens switches - as well as those from Telsis - can easily and seamlessly roll out identical services to all their subscribers, irrespective of which vendor?s switch they are connected to.


Customers of Germany?s largest independent, locally operating telco EWE TEL will be the first to benefit. EWE TEL is now using its Telsis Ocean fastSCP to add intelligent call routing and interactive services to its 10 Siemens core network switches. The alternative would have been a switch upgrade costing around five times more than the Telsis solution.


?We are very proud to be driving the services market in Germany. Other telcos simply cannot offer this level of services to their customers,? says EWE TEL?s Thorsten Thews, leader of the company?s intelligent networking group. ?Upgrading the switches themselves would have cost 500% more and would not have given us the flexibility of a Web interface for programming.?


At EWE TEL, a Telsis fastSCP controls Siemens EWSDs via intelligent network application protocol (INAP), adding intelligent call routing and interactive services that were previously unavailable. The fastSCP was originally installed to provide similar facilities via Telsis switches, and subsequently extended to support Nokia switches in another part of the telco's network.


The success of this earlier move influenced the decision to go with Telsis again. ?It means we can simply roll out the same proven services across the whole of our network and save a lot of effort in development,? says Andr? Wieschollek, head of switching systems. ?Now all of our customers can benefit and we can even think about selling services to customers of other telcos too.?


The EWE TEL contract further underlines Telsis? commitment to the German market. Recently the company gained approval to the ITU-T Q.788 requirement for the latest version of the Ocean fastSSP, its flagship programmable switching platform.


The fastSCP is a flexible, high performance platform for controlling network elements including Telsis? own fastSSP and fastIP intelligent peripheral, together with third-party switches using INAP. Each fastSCP supports up to 10 000 simultaneous calls and features its own fastSCE service creation environment for the rapid development and deployment of new applications.
